Welcome to Saint Peter's Church

Just around the corner from M, the restored Saint Peter’s Church is the setting for a new sensory experience. M will guide you through the fascinating story of this Gothic church and help you renew your acquaintance with its art treasures: outstanding works by Flemish Masters in their authentic context. Those art treasures come to life through powerful and innovative experiences. Thanks to unique digital tools, you experience them with all your senses.

Masterpieces and their stories

Among others, the 'Edelheere Triptych', the 'Triumphal Cross' by Jan Borman, the monumental 'Sacrament Tower', the tomb of Henry I, and the chapel of ‘Proud Margaret’ each have a place in the complete experience M has prepared for you. Astonishing worlds are brought to life as you discover the stories behind the church, its art treasures and the vibrant city that they call home.

‘The Last Supper’ and ‘The Martyrdom of Saint Erasmus’ by Dieric Bouts are not currently in Saint Peter’s Church. You can admire them at M Leuven in the exhibition ‘DIERIC BOUTS. Creator of images’ (20.10.2023 - 14.01.2024) and afterwards in the exhibition ‘Atelier Bouts’. They will return to the church on 15.05.2024. The HoloLens and tablet experience remain available.

The Off Hours

This autumn, M presents 'The Off Hours', a special in situ-presentation by American artist Jill Magid at St Peter’s Church. Every night, during the church's closing hours a musical score inspired by the nocturnal flight calls of migrating birds will emanate from the chapel that usually houses Dieric Bouts's triptych 'The Last Supper' (1464-1468), and echo throughout the church. 'The Off Hours' is a new chapter of Magid's film and sound installation 'The Migration of the Wings' presented at M in the spring of 2023.
